Elizabeth Murphey is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who provides individual, couples and group counseling. As a licensed psychotherapist, Elizabeth has a wealth of experience treating depression, anxiety, relationship issues, bereavement, trauma and other psychosocial issues. Elizabeth is currently accepting new patients ages 10 and older through traditional, in-person therapy or secure teleconferencing technology known as telemental health; allowing patients to participate in therapy anywhere they can use a computer, tablet or smartphone.
Elizabeth uses a variety of evidence based treatment modalities to help her clients discover and utilize their internal strengths to cope with adversity. She believes the world today presents many challenges that stretch the boundaries of our resiliency, relationships and quality of life. Her role as a therapist is to assist her clients who are struggling with difficult life events, transitions, relationship issues or the stressors of daily life. She utilizes a holistic approach to therapy, understanding each person is unique and therefore treatment plans are catered to the individual, bringing quality and balance to her clients’ lives.
Elizabeth attended State University of New York for her undergraduate degree and earned her Master’s Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Clinical Social Work. She completed her post graduate certificate in Aging Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Allied Health Professions in 2008 and her post graduate training at McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center. She has earned credentials as Advanced Hospice and Palliative Care Social Worker and Clinical Social Worker in Gerontology. She was named Hearst Scholar in 2008 and has been a field instructor for graduate candidates seeking a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work.
Elizabeth has worked with clients of all life stages in a variety of settings including mental health clinics, hospitals, parenting programs, hospice settings and nursing homes. At this time, Elizabeth accepts private pay on a sliding scale and is credentialed as a provider with Anthem, Aetna, Cigna and United Behavioral Health/Optum.
